The Choir were delighted to receive a return invitation to the Calon Lân Centre in Treboeth organised by ‘Ospreys in the Community’.  It was a full concert for Gwalia Singers, an opportunity for a good repertoire run-through before the next big event, the away tour to Ireland in October.

After a warm welcome from one of the organisers and an introduction from Gwalia Deputy Accompanist,Gareth Widlake, the Choir commenced with a rousing rendition of ‘Let All Men Sing’ and then continued with ‘Calon Lân’, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off’, You’ and the very melodious and emotional ‘Tangnefeddwyr’ The Choir were in good form, 55 in number on the gallery pews.

Danial Davies, the very talented choir soloist,  gave a wonderful performance of ‘This Is The Moment’ from the 1997 Broadway production of Jekyll and Hyde – much appreciated and acclaimed by the whole congregation. 

The Gwalia Singers continued with ‘Cwm Rhondda’.  This was followed by their first public performance of the Irish song ‘Will Ye Go Lassie Go’ , arranged by Deputy Musical Director, Nick Rogers.  For this they were accompanied by Rhian Liles on the piano and Gareth Widlake on the viola, a beautiful performance indeed!  Their final item for this set was ‘Gwahoddiad’. 

A short interval followed and then a brief outline of ‘Ospreys in the Community’ activities and involvement.

The second half commenced with ‘And Can it Be’.  They then sang two Elvis songs – ‘Always On My Mind’ and ‘If I Can Dream’ followed by a poignant rendition of the Welsh hymn ‘Rhys’, again arranged by Nick Rogers.  This was sung as a tribute to much-loved fellow chorister Alan Clewett, who passed away only 2 days previously.  Alan was a stalwart of the choir, and is sadly missed!  It was a  difficult performance for all members!

The congregation were delighted to welcome the return of Daniel Davies and his performance of ‘Bring Him Home’ from 1987 musical ‘Les Misérables’.  

The choir’s last set contained ”There is a Land’, ‘You Are So Beautiful’, ‘What Would I Do Without My Music’, and a truly powerful Coldplay ‘Fix You’.  Absolutely superb!

A very enjoyable,warm evening, the Choir at it’s best!

The concert raised about £750 for the Ospreys Supporters Club and their charitable work.
